The weekend of January 10-12, 8 fathers and their sons took part in another great Father-Son Retreat. We spent the weekend talking about Superheroes, and our true Superhero, Jesus Christ. After a morning or growth and discussion of the Word, the guys hit the hill for an afternoon of sledding and tubing. It was here that some experienced the superhero power of flying firsthand! As we flew down the hill and off various snow ramps, some of us lost our rides and had rough landings. Those rough landings made the ride far less enjoyable and caused a few of us to stop at that point. What I learned myself was that I needed to hold on tight to my tube to protect me and keep me safe.
These trips down the tubing hill and subsequent landings reminded me of how we need to hang on to our faith in this turbulent world. There are a lot of things that can cause us to lose focus or potentially even our hold on our faith in Christ. Many of us know family, friends, neighbors, or old classmates who have lost hold and wandered away from the church, and their faith. Hebrews 10:23 reminds us to, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” If we can hold on to the end, both the ride and the landing are smoother and the ride is not only enjoyable but very rewarding, with a final landing with our Savior in Heaven. For those who don’t hold on, the results are devastating and eternally terminal. So hold tight to your faith in our Lord!
