When visiting Emanuel at 200 E. Quincy St. in New London, you will see that the church is on a corner and parking lots are located on several sides of the building. There are reserved parking spots for visitors on the front side of the church across from the main entrance. You are also welcome to park behind the church in the larger Division St. lot if you wish.
If you come in the main entrance, you will turn left and go up a set of stairs into the narthex or open area before the church proper. Just continue straight ahead after ascending the stairs and one of our friendly greeters should be there to meet you and help you with anything you may need. They can tell you how to obtain a listening device if you have trouble hearing, for example, or assist you with anything that could make your visit with us as comfortable as possible. There is a Welcome Center or Visitor's station located in the narthex and staffed by individuals that would love to assist you in any way you may need. Just walk over and say hello.
If you come into the building through the back parking lot you will either climb a set of stairs into the narthex area, or, if you come in the other back door, find yourself in a long hallway. Follow that hallway straight all the way towards the front door. You will have a set of fire doors to open and go through on the way. Once at the front you will see the main stairway up into the narthex and church proper, as mentioned earlier.
Should you need an elevator, one is available in that long hallway, and is located right next to the main stairway to the narthex and church proper.
Restrooms are located in that hallway very near the elevator.
We also have more restrooms at the east end of the narthex and in the basement. To get to the church basement you simply take the stairs that go down, next to the elevator.
People often wonder what type of clothing is appropriate for attending a worship service. There are quite a number of different styles of clothing worn here; business/casual, some suits, and jeans, as well, are all seen in a typical service at Emanuel. We will be happy to welcome you no matter what type of clothing you prefer.
Our services last approximately an hour. Three pastors serve us currently, but you typically will get to meet one or two of them during a service. Our service makes use of the liturgy and praise as sung from Christian Worship, which will be provided in the pews. We also make use of our two screens and projection system to project the service from which you may follow.
Every other weekend has the practice of Communion, the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper included in the service for those who have been confirmed in the faith. If you are in affiliation with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, you may join in that practice with us, and we recommend speaking to an usher or the Pastor ahead of time to announce your intention to do so. We do practice “Close Communion”, so until you speak with one of the pastors about your current understanding of communion, we prefer you not to participate without a thorough understanding. Any of the pastors will be happy to speak with you about that practice and how you may join us in the sacrament.
We hope that you will feel welcomed in our midst, as it is our privilege to serve you with the truth of God’s Word in any way that we can. We have a youth and family minister as well as an entire school faculty, besides our pastors, who would be thrilled to have you join us. We have a large congregation, and it is very important to us that we acknowledge you, so please, sign the friendship registers in each pew at the designated time during the offering. Our offering to the Lord is one of the ways we have to praise the Lord and provide for more people to be reached by His Word. Please know that as a visitor we do not expect that you need to contribute to our collection unless you are so moved to do so. We simply appreciate being able to have you worship with us!
You may contact any of our pastors or church office through any of the ways listed within our website, and we would be happy to help you in any way we can. May God bless your visit with us at Emanuel!
